Godfather 1 This comes as the top in the IMDB Top 250 films.
A nice movie, I am not sure why most people put this as the best film of all times, but it was good.
The story in short is, A gangster has two sons, one who wants to become the DON like his father, and one who wants to become a good citizen unlike his father.
But circumstances force the second son to become the DON and how he becomes is the story.

I would suggest you read the GodFather book by Mario Puzo first and then watch the movie; because in book; he explains a lot of things which we cannot cover in 2 hours timeframe. I would say this is one of the best movies where I felt the movie is better than the book.
